K2 Program

K2 Program Details

What is K2??

K2 is an after school enrichment program designed especially for half-day morning kindergartners!

K2 classes include lots of hands on exploration through art, science and cooking projects, reading, discussion, games and other FUN activities.  We start with a theme and delve into areas that can’t be done in school, due to the constraints of time and curriculum, while also reinforcing academic readiness skills.  For example, if the theme of the week is water, we will read books about water, talk about the letters and sounds in the word “water,” measure and experiment with water, do art and cooking projects and just plain PLAY with water!

Top on the list is having FUN, but we’ll be learning to boot!

Why should I send my child to K2?

Not all families choose to send their child to full day kindergarten.  It’s expensive and not necessarily right for every child.  However, some children are ready for more, while others need extra reinforcement of readiness skills.  K2 is designed to provide “a little something more” for half-day kindergartners, whether it’s enrichment or reinforcement that they need.

AND, in addition to being a fabulous experience for kids, it also gives parents a few extra hours in the afternoons!

Where is the K2 program held?

The K2 program is offered by Jonathan House Children’s Center located at the Edwards Church and right next door to Stapleton Elementary School.  This is a wonderful facility with bright, sunny classrooms, a large indoor play space, kitchen and large fenced-in playground.

Who teaches K2?

Alison Quackenbush came up with the idea for K2 when she asked herself, “What would be the perfect job for me??”  Answer: “Teaching kindergartners but only doing the fun stuff.”  With this notion, K2 was born!  Alison is a former kindergarten teacher and holds a master’s degree in reading.  She’s been an aide and active PTO member at Potter Road School in Framingham for many years.  She is thrilled to have the chance to work with kindergartners again!

Susan Moriarty will be joining Alison at K2.  Susan is currently a kindergarten aide at Potter Road School and is attending school to earn her degree in elementary education.  A creative and gifted educator, Susan is so excited about K2 that she’s squeezing us into her busy schedule!!

Alison and Susan can’t wait to get started on the Adventures in Learning for Kindergartners (and them!)
